Abstract

One of the defining features of Mexico’s education system over recent decades has been that of expansive enrollment growth. From 1950 to 2000, total student enrollments in the formal education system — primary school through graduate studies — increased more than eightfold from 3.25 million students in 1950 to 28.22 million students in 2000. According to the most recent government data, that number had risen to 36.3 million students across all education levels – or just shy of 30 percent of the total population – by the academic year 2015-2016. According to UNESCO, gross enrollment ratio at the secondary school level has increased from just 54 percent in 1991 to 90 percent in 2014. [i] At the tertiary level, the gross enrollment ratio of university-age students has risen significantly from 15 percent in 1991 to approximately 31.2 percent in 2016. Nonetheless, it lags the regional average (46 percent in 2010) by a large margin. By comparison, Argentina enrolled the equivalent of almost 80 percent of its college age population in 2013 and Brazil 46 percent, according to data from the UNESCO Institute of Statistics.1 This project was made for all those students who haven’t an opportunity to pay a private university or maybe they can’t move to anbachelorDegreeWork city because of the family. La educación es un factor fundamental que impulsa el desarrollo, además de ser uno de los instrumentos más eficaces para reducir la pobreza y mejorar la salud, así como para lograr la igualdad de género, la paz y la estabilidad. Si bien se han registrado avances notables durante la última década, 121 millones de niños aún no asisten a la escuela primaria y el ciclo inferior de la escuela secundaria y 250 millones no saben leer ni escribir, aunque muchos de ellos sí han ido a la escuela. La educación entrega beneficios considerables y sistemáticos en materia de ingresos, y además contrarresta el aumento de la desigualdad, pero este potencial a menudo no se aprovecha debido a niveles de aprendizaje alarmantemente bajos. Entregar a todos los niños una educación de calidad que les ayude a adquirir habilidades necesarias en el mundo del trabajo es clave para poner fin a la pobreza antes de fines de 2030.
