La resolución de problemas en las matemáticas escolares

Abstract

History shows that the development of mathematics is fundamentally due to the solution of the problems that mathematicians and other scientists have set out to solve. Undoubtedly, problem solving is the line on which the greatest number of efforts have focused, both on the subject and on the development of research projects in recent years and, consequently, Has provided mathematics education. Perhaps the reason is that it is nourished by the essential aspects of mathematical work: the problems and the typical actions of thought that intervene in the solution process. In this work we want to study in some detail the processes that intervene in solving problems of school mathematics. We will document the heuristic strategies proposed by George Polya in 1945 as the physical or mental actions that give clues or help to solve a problem, as well as the metacognitive processes that intervene during the resolution process. In the first chapter we establish what is our problem of study and what are the questions that we want to answer, giving the justification about the importance of this work. In the second chapter we document the theoretical elements we consider necessary: ??some considerations about the particular and general aspects of mathematics as a science, Polya's work on heuristics and the positions of outstanding works on the subject. In the third chapter we have selected a set of problems that we have found interesting to illustrate the use of mathematical resources, heuristic strategies (tactics and tools). Finally, in the fourth chapter, we present the conclusions of the paper.

La historia muestra que el desarrollo de la matemática se debe fundamentalmente a la solución de los problemas que matemáticos y otros científicos se han propuesto resolver. Sin duda, la resolución de problemas es la línea sobre la que se han centrado el mayor número de esfuerzos, tanto por lo escrito sobre el tema como por el desarrollo de proyectos de investigación en los últimos años y, en consecuencia, la que mayor impulso ha proporcionado a la educación matemática. Quizás, la razón sea que se nutre de los aspectos esenciales del quehacer matemático: los problemas y las acciones típicas del pensamiento que intervienen en el proceso de solución. En este trabajo queremos estudiar con cierto detalle los procesos que intervienen en la resolución de problemas de las matemáticas escolares. Documentaremos las estrategias heurísticas propuestas por George Polya, en 1945, como las acciones físicas o mentales que dan pistas o ayudan a resolver un problema, así como los procesos metacognitivos que intervienen durante el proceso de resolución. En el primer capítulo establecemos cuál es nuestro problema de estudio y cuáles son las preguntas que queremos responder, dando la justificación sobre la importancia de este trabajo. En el segundo capítulo documentamos los elementos teóricos que consideramos necesarios: algunas consideraciones acerca de los aspectos particulares y generales de las matemáticas como ciencia, el trabajo de Polya acerca de la heurística y las posturas de los trabajos sobresalientes sobre el tema. En el tercer capítulo hemos seleccionado un conjunto de problemas que nos han parecido interesantes para ilustrar el uso de los recursos matemáticos, las estrategias heurísticas (tácticas y herramientas). Finalmente, en el cuarto capítulo, presentamos las conclusiones del trabajo.
