Abstract: | The current investigation addresses graffiti as a social and cultural contemporary phenomenon of global importance. We distinguish three stages of development and evolution of graffiti, beginning with the classic graffiti, emerged in the big cities of the eastern coast of the USA at the end of the 60's decade; afterwards, some of these manifestations found their way into museums and in general into the art world, reaching its second stage: the post graffiti; and finally the street art, which comes from the merging of characteristic elements of the previous stages with practices from the culture jamming, to the conceptual art and the post-museum art, to lead interventions performed on the street, using a variety of media and techniques. However we confirm that such expressions are not limited to art, but that they are frequently related to specific politic or social practices, born from the use that street art makes of the public space. |
