Abstract: | When this disease was first discovered, there was immediate concern about the possibility of contagion to humans. Although FIV is structurally similar to HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or AIDS) and causes a disease in cats similar to AIDS in humans, it is a specific agent and affects only felines. The importance of the investigation of the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) lies in the fact -like HIV- in Mexico and worldwide, of the risk of contagion and distribution; as well as the lack of information that most professionals, students and the general population have in this regard. As a result of the study of FIV, it is possible to work on better diagnoses and treatments to combat it, in addition to its relationship with HIV, it could provide data to develop an effective vaccine against it. |
