Cannabis en medicina veterinaria para Canis lupus familiaris

Abstract

The use of Cannabis in veterinary medicine has been increasing across the time, this increase due to the capabilities and advantages it has. In the present work, a compilation of information is carried out that includes from the historical perspective of Cannabis, to the therapeutic effects of its components within veterinary medicine. Likewise, the legal aspects that denote the introduction of Cannabis in a system increasingly regulated by the relevant authorities at a global level are addressed. As well as the chemical composition of the plant itself, also showing the scientific bases that allow its focused use for an ethical purpose that can be used in animal patients. An important section of the current document is undoubtedly the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Where, in turn, the topic of cannabinoid receptors is explored through the information currently available, and that allows us to understand the pharmacological part to give it an adequate therapeutic use within cannabinoid medicine. Mentioning here, then, medicinal Cannabis, as an ally since ancient times in human and animal pathologies, and highlighting that the discovery of the ECS has been key to aspiring to be an industry that generates health from an ethical and scientific perspective for the zootechnical veterinarian.

La utilización de la Cannabis en medicina veterinaria, ha ido incrementando con el paso del tiempo, dicho incremento debido a las capacidades y ventajas que tiene. En el presente trabajo se lleva a cabo una recopilación de información que comprende desde la perspectiva histórica de la Cannabis, hasta los efectos terapéuticos de sus componentes dentro de medicina veterinaria. Se abordan así mismo los aspectos legales que denotan la introducción de la Cannabis en un sistema cada vez más regulado por las autoridades pertinentes a nivel global. Así como la propia composición química de la planta, mostrando también las bases científicas que permiten su uso enfocado para un fin ético aprovechable en pacientes animales. Una sección importante del documento actual, es sin duda, el Sistema Endocannabinoide (SEC). Donde a su vez se explora el tema de los receptores cannabinoides a través de la información disponible actualmente, y que permite comprender la parte farmacológica para darle un uso terapéutico adecuado dentro de la medicina cannabinoide. Mencionando aquí pues al Cannabis medicinal, como un aliado desde tiempos remotos en patologías humanas y animales, y resaltando que el descubrimiento del SEC, ha sido clave para aspirar a ser una industria que genere salud desde una perspectiva ética y científica para el médico veterinario zootecnista (MVZ).
