La comisaria inquisitorial de San Andrés de Salvatierra, provincia de Michoacán, en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

The study on the activity of the inquisitorial police station in San Andrés de Salvatierra during the eighteenth century is of great importance for the historiography of the city of Salvatierra. At present, there is no proper monograph, since the studies that exist are very general and some of them are verbatim copies of others, requiring works that contain articles on the city in colonial times, during which it managed to stand out for the fertility of their soils. The written works on the history of the city are various, but they lack reference citations from archives or bibliography consulted by the authors for their preparation, and they were also made by simple history buffs or chroniclers. This historiography basically focuses on the founding of the city and the temples, as well as containing some data on the Marquesado de Salvatierra and chronicles of the time of Independence and the Cristero War. The first study on the founding of the city is that of Melchor Vera published in 1939, other authors have based their works on it. It contains important information, among which the settlement of the Huatzindeo valley since pre-Hispanic times and the first Spanish settlements stand out. According to the author, the information was taken directly from the General Archive of the Nation but lacks reference citations.

El estudio sobre la actividad de la comisaría inquisitorial en San Andrés de Salvatierra durante el siglo XVIII es de gran importancia para la historiografía de la ciudad de Salvatierra. En la actualidad carece de una monografía propiamente dicha, pues los estudios que hay son muy generales y algunos de ellos son copias textuales de otros, necesitando obras que contengan artículos sobre la ciudad en la época colonial, durante la cual logró sobresalir por la fertilidad de sus suelos. Las obras escritas sobre la historia de la ciudad son varias, pero les faltan citas de referencia de archivos o bibliografía consultadas por los autores para su elaboración, además fueron hechas por simples aficionados a la historia o cronistas. Ésta historiografía se enfoca básicamente a la fundación de la ciudad y los templos, así como también contienen algunos datos sobre el Marquesado de Salvatierra y crónicas del tiempo de la Independencia y la guerra cristera. El primer estudio sobre la fundación de la ciudad es el de Melchor Vera publicado en 1939, en él se han basado otros autores para sus trabajos. Contiene información importante, entre la que destaca el poblamiento del valle de Huatzindeo desde tiempos prehispánicos y los primeros asentamientos españoles. Según el autor, la información fue tomada directamente del Archivo General de la Nación pero carece de citas de referencia.
