Firstly, we must ask ourselves why make a catalogue? And what is it for us? That is, what advantages can it bring us both academically and for the general public? Speaking of the Historical Archive of the Supreme Court of Justice of the State of Michoacán de Ocampo, the catalog is the set of records that in an orderly manner make up the source of information of an institution. So we begin by saying that its main importance is to catalog or organize certain documentation from a district or court, using various criteria to make it available to the repository that houses it and, consequently, to the researchers and general public who visit it daily. to your query. Through this systematic organization of the files and their presentation in analytical files, we can contribute to the conservation of the documents, not only physically but also of the information contained, and with the purpose of creating a heritage record of the document itself (preventing deterioration, loss, theft, etc.), it is also easier for the public to consult, which is one of the functions of the A.H.S.T.J.E.M.O. But it would also be good if these catalogs were not only limited to the four walls of the room or the library, being for minimal consultation, since few people know of their existence and even fewer know what a catalog is, so they should be given to learn more, that is, to disseminate them either in exhibitions or on the Internet so that the public can consult them and they are more within their reach.

Primeramente, nos debemos preguntar el ¿por qué hacer un catálogo? y ¿para qué nos sirve?, es decir, ¿qué ventajas nos puede traer tanto académicamente como para el público en general? hablando del Archivo Histórico del Supremo Tribunal de Justicia del Estado de Michoacán de Ocampo, el catálogo es el conjunto de cédulas que de manera ordenada integran la fuente de información de una institución. Por lo que comenzamos diciendo que su importancia principal, es la de catalogar u organizar cierta documentación de algún distrito o juzgado, mediante diversos criterios para ponerla a disposición del propio repositorio que la alberga y en consecuencia de los investigadores y público en general que cotidianamente acude a su consulta. Mediante esa organización sistemática de los expedientes y su presentación en fichas analíticas, se puede contribuir a la conservación de los documentos, no sólo de manera física sino también de la información contenida, y con la finalidad de crear un registro patrimonial del propio documento (previniendo deterioro, extravío, robo, etc.), igualmente es más fácil la consulta para el público, que es una de las funciones del A.H.S.T.J.E.M.O. Pero también sería bueno que estos catálogos no sólo se limitaran a las cuatro paredes de la sala o de la biblioteca estando en consulta mínima, ya que pocas personas saben de su existencia y menos saben lo que es un catálogo, por lo que se debería darlos a conocer más, es decir, difundirlos ya sea en exposiciones o en la red de Internet para que el público pueda consultarlos y estén más a su alcance.
