La Cristiada: Un estudio historiográfico de la obra de Jean Meyer

Abstract

By proposing to carry out this research on the analysis of one of the most representative works that have been written about one of the confrontations that the 20th century had to live through and that is known as the Cristero movement in the years 1926-1929, which is one of the famous writings of the researcher Jean Meyer, La Cristiada in its three volumes for study and analysis, as said work is one of the best structured and well-known on the Cristero theme, thanks to the great diversity of sources addressed by its author around what was written about said conflict between two of the institutions with the greatest presence at the time: State and Church, intending with this to specifically make known the main contributions of the researcher to the historiography of said subject, not only to the knowledge of the institutions, but also the outstanding social actors involved at the time, exposing the historiographical current that the author followed, to develop his work; For which in the first chapter we will carry out a brief historical investigation on the Cristero conflict, to see from what perspectives Jean Meyer worked in his investigation, said confrontation that has its antecedents from "the establishment of the Catholic Church in Mexico with the Spanish conquistador and grows with the exaggerated protection by the Catholic kings, to support the establishment of religion, using the church for this only for the political purpose of justifying its expansion, for the domination and protection of the church”, through He is also controlling and converting his new subjects, to make them vassals of the Spanish crown, all this with the aim of benefiting from the great and extensive wealth of these lands, which were quite a few at the time of his arrival.

Al proponernos realizar esta investigación sobre el análisis de una de las obras más representativas que se han escrito de uno de los enfrentamientos que tuvo que vivir el siglo XX y que es conocido como el movimiento cristero en los años 1926-1929, que es uno de los escritos celebres del investigador Jean Meyer, La Cristiada en sus tres tomos para su estudio y análisis, por ser dicha obra una de las mejor estructuradas y conocidas sobre el tema cristero, gracias a la gran diversidad de fuentes abordadas por su autor en torno a lo escrito sobre dicho conflicto entre dos de las instituciones con más presencia en la época: Estado e Iglesia, pretendiendo con esto dar a conocer específicamente los principales aportes del investigador a la historiografía de dicho tema, no solo al conocimiento de las instituciones, sino también los actores sociales sobresalientes implicados en la época, exponer la corriente historiográfica que siguió el autor, para desarrollar su obra; Para lo cual en un primer capítulo realizaremos una breve investigación histórica sobre el conflicto cristero, para ver desde que perspectivas trabajo Jean Meyer en su investigación, dicho enfrentamiento que tiene sus antecedentes desde “el establecimiento de la iglesia católica en México con el conquistador español y crece con la exagerada protección por parte de los reyes católicos, para apoyar el establecimiento de la religión, utilizando para ello a la iglesia solo con el fin político de justificar su expansión, para la dominación y protección de la iglesia”, por medio de esta también controlar y convertir a sus nuevos súbditos, para hacerlos vasallos de la corona española, todo esto con el objetivo de beneficiarse de las grandes y extensas riquezas de estas tierras, que eran bastantes al momento de su llegada.
