Tras las rejas del olvido: La reclusión de mujeres en la ciudad de Puebla. Siglo XVI-XIX.

Abstract

The objective of the following text is to make a long tour of some aspects of the social history of the city of Puebla, to review the place that women have occupied in situations of marginality, in order to problematize, based on documentary evidence, the differential treatment of the female gender and the social dynamics that have positioned women in subordination and confinement throughout their lives. The present investigation proposes to elucidate the situation of the poblanas outside the moral or legal norms and the punishment that is applied to the transgressors in the course of the 16th to the 19th century, where it is appreciated that the prosecution and the sanction are also marked by the nature of the offenders. Despite how suggestive its study may be, up to now it has not been the object of long-term analysis that allows us to explore the feminine nature in conditions of marginalization and social rejection, among the different places of female imprisonment, since the founding of the retreats at the beginning of the colony, its evolution to corregimientos in the period of the Enlightenment, up to the Municipal Women's Prison of the City, places of confinement that offer privileged spaces for observation of their specific characteristics as institutions with a different character: protection , correction and punishment, as well as addressing the environment of women in their condition of transgressors of moral and legal norms.

El objetivo del siguiente texto es hacer un largo recorrido sobre algunos aspectos de la historia social de la ciudad de Puebla, para revisar el lugar que han ocupado las mujeres en situaciones de marginalidad, a fin de problematizar, sobre la base de evidencias documentales, el trato diferenciado del que ha sido objeto el género femenino y la dinámica social que ha posicionado a la mujer en la subordinación y el encierro a lo largo de su vida. La presente investigación propone dilucidar la situación de las poblanas al margen de las normas morales o legales y el castigo que se aplica a las transgresoras en el transcurso del siglo XVI al XIX, en donde se aprecia que el enjuiciamiento y la sanción también son marcados por la naturaleza de los infractores. A pesar de lo sugerente que puede resultar su estudio, hasta el momento no ha sido objeto de análisis de largo aliento que permitan explorar la naturaleza femenina en condiciones de marginalidad y rechazo social, entre los diferentes sitios de reclusión femenina, desde la fundación de los recogimientos a los inicios de la colonia, su evolución a corregimientos en el lapso de la ilustración, hasta la Cárcel Municipal de mujeres de la Ciudad, lugares de reclusión que ofrecen espacios privilegiados de observación sobre sus características específicas como instituciones con diferente carácter: de protección, corrección y castigo, así como abordar el entorno de las mujeres en su condición de transgresoras de las normas morales y el legal.
