Abstract

Si algún movimiento social, en México, ha despertado el interés de los académicos, investigadores y artistas, este sin lugar a dudas ha sido la Revolución Mexicana. A más de cien años del inicio de esta gesta, entre libros, artículos, ensayos, tesis, notas periodísticas, fotografías, pinturas, canciones, cuentos, poemas y películas, podríamos bien tapizar los muros de varios palacios virreinales y podría ser, incluso, que nos faltara espacio. Sus actores, sus batallas, los ejércitos, las proclamas, los manifiestos, han sido abordados más de una vez por diferentes intelectuales y académicos de renombre. Así también lo ha hecho el cine. Más de 250 largometrajes (sin contar el cine documental) han tenido como temática o contexto histórico la Revolución Mexicana. A su vez, el estudio de los actores sociales que figuraron como grandes dirigentes políticos o militares (o ambos) no ha parado en su producción. Y, dentro de los personajes más socorridos que participaron en esta gesta, Emiliano Zapata ocupa uno de los lugares privilegiados. La figura de Zapata ha levantado el interés, durante años, de diversos investigadores de las más variadas disciplinas sociales. Estudios biográficos están presentes en las librerías de cualquier ciudad de la república mexicana e incluso del extranjero. Las tesis con este tema se encuentran en las bibliotecas de las diferentes escuelas e institutos de investigación, los artículos y ensayos abundan en las diferentes revistas y publicaciones tanto de divulgación científica y periodística como de arte o políticas. Bajo esta premisa, es imprescindible el responder a la pregunta, bastante justa, de ¿Por qué realizar un estudio más acerca de Emiliano Zapata y el Ejercito Libertado del Sur? Y, además ¿Por qué hacerlo utilizando al cine como documento histórico, y desde la perspectiva que este nos brinda?
