La secularización de la doctrina agustina de Jacona, 1757-1769

Abstract

The content of this thesis is divided into three chapters; the first chapter is focused on raising awareness of the 18th century context, from the intellectual movement known as the Enlightenment, being a characteristic of this century, along with the development of enlightened despotism, which brought about by the implementation of a number of significant changes for New Spain, the so-called Bourbon reforms. Considering the structure of the protocol, we have the second chapter, which addresses in general the arrival in New Spain and therefore the Bishopric of Michoacán, the religious orders. Similarly, the foundation of the Bishopric of Michoacán and the importance of its first bishop, Don Vasco de Quiroga, in the same way, a reference to a series of conflicts gestated between regular and secular clergy is made. It also has general information about the situation of the Bishopric of Michoacán on the eve of the secularizing process that would be implemented in the middle of the XVIII century. Finally, in the third chapter the context in which the arrival of the first Augustinians to the bishopric friars, emphasizing its main foundations, undertaken work and the foundation of the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino is presented. Similarly, alternative conflict in that province is addressed. Subsequently, a brief look at the historical development of Jacona, entering the pre-Hispanic era, to their situation after the conquest, to the arrival of the first Augustinians and religious foundation of the doctrine is made. It was viable and necessary to know the situation in which the doctrine was a few years before secularization was executed. In the same way we present an analysis of the process of secularizing the doctrine, the way in which the occupation decree was developed, the ceremony of delivery, accompanied by the writing of an inventory of the property and jewels of the doctrine, in order to terminate the occupation process, responding to the requirements stipulated in the Royal Decrees.

El contenido de la presente tesis se estructura en tres capítulos; el primer capítulo está enfocado en dar a conocer el contexto del siglo XVIII, a partir del movimiento intelectual conocido como Ilustración, siendo una característica propia de dicho siglo, aunado al desarrollo del despotismo ilustrado, que trajo consigo la implementación de una serie de cambios significativos para la Nueva España, las llamadas reformas borbónicas. Siguiendo con el protocolo estructural, se tiene el segundo capítulo, en el cual se aborda de manera general la llegada a la Nueva España y por ende al Obispado de Michoacán, de las órdenes religiosas. De igual manera se expone la fundación del obispado de Michoacán y la importancia de su primer obispo, don Vasco de Quiroga, de igual manera se hace referencia a una serie de conflictos gestados entre el clero regular y el secular. También se cuenta con información general en torno a la situación del Obispado de Michoacán en vísperas del proceso secularizador que se implementaría a mediados del siglo XVIII. Para finalizar, en el tercer capítulo se presenta el contexto en el cual se desarrolló la llegada de los primeros frailes agustinos al obispado, haciendo énfasis en sus principales fundaciones, las labores emprendidas, la fundación de la Provincia de San Nicolás de Tolentino, de la misma manera se aborda el conflicto de la alternativa en dicha provincia. Posteriormente se efectúa un breve acercamiento al devenir histórico de Jacona, adentrándonos a la época prehispánica, a su situación después de la conquista, a la llegada de los primeros religiosos agustinos y a la fundación de la doctrina. Nos fue viable y necesario conocer la situación en la que se encontraba la doctrina unos años antes de ejecutarse la secularización.
