La política educativa de la administración del General Mariano Jiménez, 1885-1892

Abstract

The central part of this thesis goes through the legislative and material work that, in the educational field was done in Michoacan during the administration of oaxacan general Mariano Jiménez Figueroa, which took part in the period that goes from 1885 to 1892, that coincided with the Porfirist government’s consolidation in the national scene. What took place in this context, contrasted in an evident way with the work that was done by the precedent gobernor, Pudenciano Dorantes (1881 to 1892) and by the inmediate successor of general Jiménez, Aristeo Mercado (1892 to 1911). In those times, particular attention was focused to the creation and adecuated functioning of the elementary’s educational establishments, even though, the pedagogic subject was not innovated because it preserved the old and unfunctional Lancasterian system. The educational work of that state government was crownded with the foundation of the “Girl’s Academy of Morelia” which, in the period that goes from 1886 to 1915, provided educator’s unions who cared about the state’s educational system until the XX century. It is not ommited to mention that this government’s effort of religious education, which was promoted by autorities of the archbishopric in Michoacan and which most representative establishment was the “Theresian College of Guadalupe”.

La parte medular de la tesis gira alrededor de la labor legislativa y material que en el ámbito educativo, fue llevada a cabo durante la administración del general oaxaqueño Mariano Jiménez Figueroa en Michoacán, la que se extendió en el lapso 1885-1892, lo que coincidió con la consolidación del régimen porfirista en el escenario nacional. Lo llevado a cabo en ese rubro contrastó de manera evidente con lo efectuado en su momento por el gobernador precedente Pudenciano Dorantes (1881-1885), y el inmediato sucesor del general Jiménez, Aristeo Mercado (1892-1911). En ese entonces, se prestó particular atención a la creación y adecuado funcionamiento de planteles de instrucción primaria, aunque no se innovó en materia pedagógica al preservarse el añejo e infuncional sistema lancasteriano. La obra educativa de ese gobierno estatal se coronó con la fundación de la Academia de Niñas de Morelia, la cual proveyó en el periodo 1886-1915, los cuadros de docentes que se ocuparon en la atención del sistema educativo estatal hasta muy avanzado el siglo XX. No se omite mencionar que este esfuerzo gubernamental contribuyó además a minar el posicionamiento e influencia de la educación de perfil religioso, auspiciada por las autoridades del arzobispado de Michoacán y cuyo plantel más representativo fue el Colegio Teresiano de Guadalupe.
