Transgresores frente a la Inquisición al norte del Obispado de Michoacán. Seis estudios de caso en las proximidades de San Luis Potosí 1756-1795

Abstract

The present investigation makes a study of the Inquisition and the elites of power established in the vast territory of San Luis Potosí during the second half of the XVIII century. In it we can appreciate the control that exercised the colonial institutions in the life of the people, where the Church and the Spanish Crown used the Inquisition to fulfill the Christian law. Also emphasizes the study of the Holy Tribunal as a fundamental weapon of the historian, not only to understand the history of the Holy Office and its operation, but also to understand the historical processes and society of its time. In addition the research make an application to the study for a part of the life of several influential characters for the history of New Spain and regional history, such as were fray Junípero Serra, Jose Antonio Ortiz de Zárate, Rufino and Felipe Barragán, Bernardo Lazo de la Vega, The family de la Gándara, María Pascuala and Antonio Ladrón de Guevara, to name a few.

La presente investigación realiza un estudio de la Inquisición y las élites de poder establecidas en el vasto territorio de San Luis Potosí durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. En ella se puede apreciar el control que ejercieron las instituciones coloniales en la vida de los súbditos, donde la Iglesia y la Corona española utilizaron a la Inquisición para cumplir la ley cristiana. Así mismo hace énfasis al estudio del Santo Tribunal como un arma fundamental del historiador, no sólo para comprender la historia del Santo Oficio y su funcionamiento, sino también para entender los procesos históricos acaecidos y a la sociedad de su tiempo. Además la investigación aborda una parte de la vida de varios personajes influyentes para la historia de la Nueva España y la historia regional, tales como lo fueron fray Junípero Serra, José Antonio Ortiz de Zárate, Rufino y Felipe Barragán, Bernardo Lazo de la Vega, la familia de la Gándara, María Pascuala y Antonio Ladrón de Guevara, por mencionar algunos.
