Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia 2003-2017

Abstract

Film festivals have become more relevant over the years, as cultural and social events they must be analyzed. This study presents the events of Morelia’s International Film Festival (FICM), from the first edition in 2003 to the edition of the year 2017. It is one of the most important festivals in Mexico, it has managed to stand out for its selection and dissemination of Mexican short films, documentaries and feature films. This research gives us an insight into the situation of the national cinema and shows us that the festival descends from other projects, the main one: the most important cinema chain in Latin America: Cinépolis, an empire built by the Ramírez family that pretends to consummate their cultural and social capital to obtain a symbolic capital.

Los festivales de cine han ido tomado más relevancia con el paso de los años, al ser eventos de índole cultural y social son importantes de analizar. Este trabajo nos ofrece los acontecimientos del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM), desde su primera edición en 2003 hasta la edición del año 2017. Es uno de los festivales más importantes de México, ha logrado destacar por su selección y difusión de cortometrajes, documentales y largometrajes mexicanos. La investigación nos brinda un acercamiento a la situación del cine nacional y nos muestra que el festival desciende de otros proyectos, el principal: la cadena de cine más importante de América Latina: Cinépolis, un imperio edificado por la familia Ramírez, quienes pretenden consumar su capital cultural y social para obtener un capital simbólico.
