La fiesta del Señor de la Divina Clemencia. Identidad y poder local en San Agustín del Pulque, Michoacán, 1960-2014

Abstract

A festival can be defined as a public or private celebration where an important event is remembered or celebrated. We also have religious festivals that have a social character where people express their religious devotion and it reflects their traditions and customs that are part of their identity. In the religious festival of the Lord of the Divine Clemency that is celebrated annually in the town of San Agustín del Pulque in the municipality of Cuitzeo, Michoacán, we can observe a phenomenon that Erick Hobsbawm calls "the invention of traditions", where a tradition is renewed over time according to the needs of society, meaning that this celebration does not fall into the so-called "costumbrismo" and over time people add new cultural elements to the celebrations. The main objective of this research is to identify which cultural elements prevail in the feast of the Lord of the Divine Clemency and which have been added in the course of time from 1960-2014.

La fiesta se puede definir como una celebración pública o privada donde se recuerda o celebra un hecho importante. Así mismo tenemos fiestas religiosas que tienen un carácter social en donde las personas expresan su devoción religiosa y en ella se refleja sus tradiciones, así como sus costumbres que son parte de su identidad. En la fiesta religiosa del Señor de la Divina Clemencia que se celebra anualmente en el pueblo de San Agustín del Pulque del municipio de Cuitzeo, Michoacán, podemos observar un fenómeno que Erick Hobsbawm llama “la invención de las tradiciones”, en donde una tradición al pasar con el tiempo se va renovando de acuerdo a las necesidades de la sociedad, es decir que esta celebración no cae en el llamado “costumbrismo” y al pasar el tiempo las personas agregan nuevos elementos culturales a las celebraciones. El objetivo principal de esta investigación es el poder identificar que elementos culturales prevalecen en la fiesta del Señor de la Divina Clemencia y cuales se han ido a agregando en el trascurso del tiempo desde 1960-2014.
