Imprenta La Purísima Coronada. La familia Ginori: talleres, impresores y acervo documental (Guanajuato y Michoacán 1895-1970)

Abstract

The printing history in México has been studied from different research periods and areas, thanks to which we know the editorial productions and a great variety de formats of the print culture. The present worth deals with one of the advertising supports most popular of the periods between centuries, made in the printing workshops dedicated to minor printing, as the social and commercial participations of a different nature than editorial printing of newspapers and magazines, sometimes ephemeral or transitory: we have pointed out their technical and stylistic qualities, and their social and cultural contents. We talk about the collection that belonged to the printing of La Purísima Coronada (LPC), that it was founded in 1895 in Celaya, Guanajuato, staying open until the 90s of the twentieth century in the city of Morelia, Michoacán. In this document we analyze the family origin and the route of the printers through time, their quirky prints and the technical process that shaped them; further, the management of the workshop by the master printers and the women of the Ginori family, whom make possible their stay in the period between centuries and their economic stability during the second half of the twentieth century. The analysis of the different fonts and images of the minor printing allowed us to know a part of the visual culture of the Porfiriato in Mexico, which used the historic and modern styles in the commercial art. The study also indicates the importance of the current projects that take up this old trade.

La historia de la imprenta en México ha sido abordada en diferentes periodos y áreas de investigación, gracias a las cuáles conocemos las producciones editoriales y una gran variedad de formatos de la cultura impresa. Este trabajo trata sobre uno de los soportes publicitarios más populares del periodo entre siglos, realizado en los talleres de la imprenta dedicada al impreso menor, como las participaciones sociales y comerciales de carácter diferente al impreso editorial de periódicos y revistas, a veces efímeros o transitorios; hemos señalado en ellos sus cualidades técnicas y estilísticas y sus contenidos sociales y culturales. Se trata del acervo que perteneció a la imprenta La Purísima Coronada, fundada en 1895 en Celaya Guanajuato y que permaneció activa hasta los años noventa del siglo XX en la ciudad de Morelia, Michoacán. En este estudio, podremos ver el origen familiar y la ruta de los impresores a través del tiempo, sus peculiares impresos y los procesos técnicos que les dieron forma; además, la administración del taller por parte de los maestros impresores y las mujeres de esta familia, hicieron posible su tránsito en el periodo entre siglos y su estabilidad económica durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Los estilos históricos y modernos recuperados por el impreso menor, fueron analizados a través de sus diferentes tipografías e imágenes, para conocer una parte de la cultura visual del porfiriato en México mediante su arte comercial. El estudio también ha señalado la importancia de los proyectos actuales que retoman este antiguo oficio.
