Los constructores de Valladolid de Michoacán en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

The present work attempts to concentrate on the history of architecture into the regional environment to allow us to know the participants in the constructive process about the old Valladolid city in Michoacan in the eighteenth century. This investigation that we are called “The Constructors of Valladolid of Michoacan in the eighteenth century”, takes as a subject of study man and his contribution to shape a city from a region through its formation, its work and its knowledge about constructive materials. We cover the analysis of the historical documentation, the organization of the work, the constructor’s specialization, established hierarchic levels as well as the craftsmen who made Valladolid city possible. We locate the constructors in the social, juridical, political, economical and cultural fields that started the constructive development of the city; we try to recover the architectural theoric speech, based on the constructor’s professional forming and the proposals of urban integration that we were made by the same builders. Now we know they were and where they were from these constructors, what epoch they belonged to and what works they participated in. The construction of the religious buildings, public constructions and houses were impelled by the clerical members who participated in their construction, directing and observing the constructive activities. In order to make available the opinion of this information we designed a data base that contains the names of the builders, the works they participated in, the materials used in the construction of the buildings that conform the old Valladolid city nowadays called Morelia.

El presente trabajo pretende contribuir a conformar la historia de la arquitectura en el ámbito regional que nos permita conocer a los participantes en el proceso constructivo de la antigua ciudad de Valladolid de Michoacán del siglo XVIII. Esta investigación que hemos denominado Los Constructores de Valladolid de Michoacán en el siglo XVIII, toma como sujeto de estudio al hombre y su contribución a la configuración de una ciudad, de una región, a través de su formación, de su trabajo, de su conocimiento y acción sobre los materiales constructivos. Abordamos desde el análisis de la documentación histórica la organización del trabajo, la especialización de los constructores, los niveles jerárquicos establecidos y los artesanos que hicieron posible la ciudad de Valladolid. Ubicamos a los constructores en el medio ambiente social, jurídico, político, económico y cultural que propició el desarrollo constructivo de la ciudad; buscamos recuperar el discurso teórico de la Arquitectura, plasmada en la formación profesional de los constructores y las propuestas de integración urbana que realizaron los mismos constructores. Ahora conocemos quienes fueron, y de donde eran originarios estos constructores, en qué época y obras participaron; sus actividades; que la construcción de los edificios religiosos, casas habitación y la realización de obras públicas fueron impulsados por los miembros del clero y que ellos mismos participaron en su construcción dirigiendo y vigilando las actividades constructivas. Para agilizar la consulta de esta información diseñamos una base de datos que contiene los nombres de los constructores; las obras en que participaron y los materiales empleados en la edificación de los inmuebles que conformaron la antigua Valladolid, hoy Morelia.
