Abstract

The present thesis analyzes An Idyll through the War, by Eduardo Ruiz, situating it as a historical, sentimental and custom novel whose dialogical configuration shares features with other literary practices written in Mexico in the 19th century. To contribute to this objective, a critical analysis of the ideological discourse in this novel has been carried out. Proving that, beyond being a work of popular fiction created to entertain the reader, An Idyll through the War fulfills a pedagogical function, implicit regarding morality, but explicit and persuasive when dealing with the political aspect.

La presente tesis analiza Un Idilio a través de la Guerra, de Eduardo Ruiz, situándola como una novela histórica, sentimental y de costumbres, cuya configuración dialógica manifiesta rasgos comunes con otras prácticas literarias escritas en México en el siglo XIX. Para coadyuvar a este objetivo, se ha realizado un análisis crítico del discurso ideológico de esta novela, demostrando que, más allá de ser una obra de ficción popular escrita para entretener al lector, Un Idilio a través de la Guerra cumple una función pedagógica, implícita en cuanto a la moralidad, pero explícita y persuasiva cuando trata el aspecto político.
