Arquitectura doméstica tradicional de tierra caliente, Michoacán. Carácuaro: un caso de estudio

Abstract

In the State of Michoacán, the earthen architecture represents the majority of the traditional expressions of construction which underlines the importance of investigate the historical-constructive knowledge of this building typology. This implies, rethinking the approaches with which this architecture has been addressed, whereby the issue of habitability related to materiality starts as a congruent way to follow to elucidate the relationship between the uses of traditional dwelling with the conservation of a regional spatial typology. The interest of this research is to deepen in explaining the influence of the physical environment of Tierra Caliente in the habitability and materiality of traditional dwelling as an adaptation response to it in the Balsas-Tepalcatepec Depression region in the southeast of the State of Michoacán, due to the propensity for changes, alterations and loss to which it is subject, also for the lack of interest in the knowledge, promotion and safeguarding of the traditional domestic architecture in this part of the Michoacan territory. To explain the regional characteristics, a typological analysis is carried out on a series of houses - urban and rural - in the municipality of Carácuaro, which due to their inherent characteristics can be considered traditional, this through the reading and identification of their physical features, without losing sight of the role played by the issue of habitability, because through this, it is possible to significantly influence the permanence and validity of traditional domestic architecture. It is concluded that traditional dwelling is a cultural heritage, whose conservation and validity is based on the continuity of uses, the dialectical relationship with its surroundings, and, mainly with the economic situation of its inhabitants.

En el estado de Michoacán, la arquitectura de tierra representa la mayoría de las expresiones tradicionales de construcción, lo que subraya la importancia de indagar en el conocimiento histórico-constructivo de esta tipología edificatoria. Esto implica, repensar los enfoques con que se ha abordado esta arquitectura, por lo cual el tema de la habitabilidad relacionado con la materialidad parte como un congruente camino a seguir para dilucidar sobre la relación entre los usos de la vivienda tradicional con la conservación de una tipología espacial regional. El interés de esta investigación es profundizar en explicar la influencia del medio físico de Tierra Caliente en la habitabilidad y materialidad de la vivienda tradicional como respuesta de adaptación a éste en la región de la Depresión Balsas-Tepalcatepec en el sureste del estado de Michoacán, lo anterior debido a la propensión a cambios, alteraciones y pérdida a la que se ve sujeta, así mismo por la falta de interés en el conocimiento, promoción y salvaguarda de la arquitectura doméstica tradicional en esta parte del territorio michoacano. Para explicar las características regionales, se realiza un análisis tipológico a una serie de viviendas –urbanas y rurales-, en el municipio de Carácuaro, que por sus características inherentes pueden considerarse tradicionales, esto a través de la lectura e identificación de sus rasgos físicos, sin perder de vista el rol que juega el tema de la habitabilidad, pues a través de ésta, es que se podrá incidir significativamente en la permanencia y vigencia de la arquitectura doméstica tradicional. Se concluye que la vivienda tradicional, es un patrimonio cultural, cuya conservación y vigencia está sustentada en la continuidad de usos, la relación dialéctica con su entorno y, principalmente con la situación económica de sus moradores.
