La vida cotidiana de negros y mulatos, en la ciudad de Valladolid 1765-1805

Abstract

In the present investigation the daily life of the Afro-descendant population (blacks and mulattoes) is shown, which was thought for the last decades of the 18th century, the project was carried out with the review of parish documents, trials, books of accounts and some letters found in the archives. The intention is to show how throughout the colonial period these men and women were present in a society, the same society in which they were not fully accepted. At the beginning of the colonial period we can see how the blacks arrived carrying out activities that implied a lot of physical force, or the majority being slaves, with the passing of the years and with the racial mixture that appeared in New Spain, the possibilities for the blacks widened. blacks, and for their descendants, in this case the mulattoes, who already managed to have more job opportunities, and settle within the city of Valladolid. Life for them began to be different since they were present in almost all places carrying out activities, but the reality is that the rest of society, mainly the power group, always observed them, each action or behavior they presented was questioned, from the stereotypes that were held about them, which were always linked to issues of disorder at parties and public places, as well as lazy at work, people who liked to play different games of chance, and who did not obey, nor They followed directions.

En la presente investigación se muestra la vida cotidiana de la población afrodescendiente (negros y mulatos), misma que fue pensaba para las últimas décadas del siglo XVIII, el proyecto se llevó a cabo con la revisión de documentos parroquiales, juicios, libros de cuentas y algunas cartas encontradas en los archivos. La intención es mostrar como a lo largo del periodo colonial estos hombres y mujeres estuvieron presenten en una sociedad, misma sociedad en la que no fueron aceptados del todo. Al inicio del periodo colonial podemos ver como los negros llegaron desempeñando actividades que implicaban bastante fuerza física, o la mayoría siendo esclavos, con el paso de los años y con la mezcla racial que se presentó en la Nueva España, se ampliaron las posibilidades para los negros, y para sus descendientes, en este caso los mulatos, mismo que ya lograron tener más posibilidades de trabajo, y establecerse dentro de la ciudad de Valladolid. La vida para ellos empezaba a ser diferente ya que estaban presentes en casi todos los lugares desempeñando actividades, pero la realidad es que el resto de la sociedad, principalmente el grupo del poder siempre los observo, cada acción, o conducta que presentaban era cuestionada, a partir de los estereotipos que se tenían sobre ellos, mismo que siempre estaban vinculados a cuestiones de desorden en las fiestas y lugares públicos, así como flojos en los trabajos, personas que les gustaba jugar distintos juegos de azar, y que no obedecían, ni atendían las indicaciones.
