The following research reports the experience of participatory planning with a local development approach carried out in the indigenous community of Urandén de Morelos, Michoacán. To achieve the proposed objectives, the dimensions of local development were described and analyzed by means of a participatory community diagnosis. Similarly, participatory workshops were carried out to sensitize and raise awareness among the participants of the various workshops on the importance of the active participation of the community in the solution of their needs and/or problems. To further include the topic of participation, adults from the island were interviewed in order to describe the components and favorable characteristics for implementing community participation processes in the search for local development within the community of Urandén. It is concluded that community participation is both a way and a possibility for the inhabitants of Urandén to feel involved and capable of generating their own development, taking advantage of the endogenous material and immaterial resources present in their community.en
