Huella hídrica del arándano en agricultura protegida y sus implicaciones geohidrológicas, hidrogeoquímicas y sociales en Michoacán

Abstract

The production of blueberries for export in Michoacán has been growing uninterruptedly in the last two decades, generating a consequent economic benefit in the state. However, this production requires raw materials such as water. An indicator of water demand is the water footprint (WF), measured as the volume of water used in the production of a good or service. The objective of this study was to estimate the WF of blueberry under a regional production model in two representative sites in the state, Acuitzio and Los Reyes. Based on the proposal of Hoekstra et al., (2011), adaptations were made in order to obtain a methodology applicable to the regional production model, consisting of plasticized agriculture under macrotunnel and hydroponics with coconut fiber as a substrate. The main adaptations consisted of: I) obtaining evapotranspiration by the lysimeter method in estimating blue WF; II) measurement of runoff to measure gray WF. The indicators of the geohydrological, hydrogeochemical and social implications were water stress (WS), the Water Quality Index (WQI), and the analysis of Virtual Water (VW). The results suggest a blue WF of 487 m3 t-1 for Acuitzio and 1217 m3 t-1 for Los Reyes, the gray WF was 776 m3 t-1 and 2140 m3 t-1 for Acuitzio and Los Reyes, respectively, and the WF total was 1263 m3 t-1 in Acuitzio and 3357 m3 t-1 in Los Reyes. The WF values of the present study are higher than those reported globally for blueberries produced in the open air, which has a blue HH of 334 m3 t-1, a gray WF of 170 m3 t-1 and a total WF. of 845 m3 t-1 (Mekonnen and Hoekstra, 2010)

La producción del arándano de exportación en Michoacán ha ido creciendo de manera ininterrumpida en las últimas dos décadas generando una consecuente derrama económica en el estado. No obstante, esta producción es demandante de materias primas como el agua. Un indicador de la demanda de agua es la huella hídrica (HH), medida como el volumen de agua utilizada en la producción de un bien o servicio. El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar la HH del arándano bajo un modelo regional de producción en dos sitios representativos en el estado, Acuitzio y Los Reyes. Con base en la propuesta de Hoekstra et al., (2011) se realizaron adaptaciones con el fin de obtener una metodología aplicable al modelo regional de producción, consistente en agricultura plastificada bajo macrotúnel e hidroponía con fibra de coco como sustrato. Las principales adaptaciones consistieron en: I) la obtención de la evapotranspiración por el método del lisímetro en la estimación de la HH azul; II) la medición del escurrimiento para medir la HH gris. Los indicadores de las implicaciones geohidrológicas, hidrogeoquímicas y sociales fueron el estrés hídrico (EH), el índice de Calidad del Agua (ICA), y el análisis del Agua Virtual (AV). Los resultados sugieren una HH azul de 487 m3 t-1 para Acuitzio y 1217 m3 t-1 para Los Reyes, la HH gris fue de 776 m3 t-1 y 2140 m3 t-1 para Acuitzio y Los Reyes, respectivamente y la HH total fue de 1263 m3 t-1 en Acuitzio y 3357 m3 t-1 en Los Reyes. Los valores de la HH del presente estudio son mayores que los reportados a nivel global para el arándano producido a cielo abierto, el cual tiene una HH azul de 334 m3 t-1, una HH gris de 170 m3 t-1 y una HH total de 845 m3 t-1 (Mekonnen y Hoekstra, 2010).
