La familia Asteraceae (del griego Aster = astro o estrella), es una de las más numerosas del reino vegetal, se encuentran distribuidas ampliamente a nivel mundial, a ella pertenecen alrededor de 20,000 especies, las cuales morfológicamente van desde plantas arbóreas o arbustivas, también pueden ser sub-arbustos o plantas herbáceas.
