Abstract

Alcohols are organic compounds that contain a hydroxyl group (-OH). They are very common compounds in nature and useful in industry and the home. Alcohols are synthesized by a wide variety of methods and the hydroxyl group can be transformed into most other functional groups. For this reason, alcohols are versatile synthetic intermediates.

Los alcoholes son compuestos orgánicos que contienen un grupo hidroxilo (-OH). Son compuestos muy frecuentes en la naturaleza y útiles en la industria y el hogar. Los alcoholes se sintetizan mediante una gran variedad de métodos y el grupo hidroxilo se puede transformar en la mayoría del resto de grupos funcionales.
