Adaptación y producción de tres genotipos de chile en las condiciones ambientales del valle de Apatzingán, Michoacán

Abstract

This research was conducted from November 2015 to April 2016 in the experimental agricultural field of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. Two hybrids of jalapeño pepper were evaluated: Euforia and Invicto, and a creole variety of habanero chilli var. Chocolate; all three genotypes were evaluated under plastic muclching,fertigation and field conditions. The hybrid Euforia reached an average height of 25 cm and Invicto less than 20 cm, the first hybrid produced on average 16 flowers, in contrast the hybrid Invicto did not exceed 4 flowers on average per plant. Similary, the number of fruits followed the same trend for the two hybrids, with Euforia being the hybrid that presented the best phenological characteristics. Regarding habanero chile var. Chocolate, this variety did not express the genetic potential due to the presence of the Huasteco Virus of the Yellow Vena of Chile (PHYVV, Pepper Huasteco Yellow Vein Virus), this virus decreased the production and affected the growth of the plant. It is suggested to continue carrying out studies of sowing dates, to explore the sowing of a greater variety of genotypes of both jalapeño and habanero peppers, as well as the management of pests and diseases, this in order to determine the environmental, ecological and management conditions more appropriate and enhance the yield and adoption of these species in the Apatzingán region.

Esta investigación se realizó de noviembre de 2015 al mes de abril de 2016 en el campo agrícola experimental de la Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias de la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. Se evaluaron dos híbridos de chile jalapeño: Euforia e Invicto, y una variedad criolla de chile habanero var. Chocolate; los tres genotipos se evaluaron en condiciones de acolchado, fertirriego y a cielo abierto. El híbrido Euforia alcanzó una altura promedio de 25 cm e Invicto menor de 20 cm, el primer hibrido produjo en promedio 16 flores, en contraste el híbrido Invicto no rebasó las 4 flores en promedio por planta. De igual manera, el número de frutos siguió la misma tendencia para los dos híbridos, siendo Euforia el híbrido que presentó las mejores características fenológicas. En lo referente al chile habanero var. Chocolate, esta variedad no expresó el potencial genético debido a la presencia del Virus Huasteco de la Vena Amarilla del Chile (PHYVV, Pepper Huasteco YellowVein Virus), este virus disminuyó la producción y afectó el crecimiento de la planta. Se sugiere seguir realizando estudios de fechas de siembra, explorar la siembra de mayor variedad de genotipos tanto de chile jalapeño como de habanero, así como el manejo de plagas y enfermedades, esto con el fin de determinar las condiciones ambientales, ecológicas y de manejo más adecuadas y potenciar el rendimiento y adopción de estas especies en la región de Apatzingán.
