Rendimiento académico en grupos vulnerables universitarios

Abstract

Academic Performance (AR) evolves from student-centered conceptions to holistic conceptions that attribute performance to a set of factors derived from the educational system, the family and the student. The condition of vulnerability affects the AR by several factors: contextual, mental health of parents, sensory stimulation, language and characteristics of the physical environment. The objective was to identify AR in vulnerable groups in a quantitative, non-experimental and cross-sectional study in university students with a non-probabilistic sample at the convenience of 120 students. The Median Scale (α= .843 and two halves of Guttman .871) was used with two dimensions: Contextual Variables (VC) and Student Own Variables (VPE). VC with two subdimensions Family (VCF) and Academic (VCA) and VPE with two subdimensions Personality / Human Profile (VPE-PPH) and Academic Profile (VPE-PA). Results Majority 59.5% women, 90% of Michoacán, 13% belong to section 10 and 50% to the sixth semester, 83.5% do not have a scholarship, 84.4% do not have any children, 29.8% speak another language besides Spanish, of which 16.5% speak Purepecha, 98.3% have no physical disability, 56.2% have an average of 8.1 to 9. High AR was found in full scale (68.6%) and VC (67.8%); and regular in VPE (62.8%). In subdimensions, the RA was high in VCF (72.7%), VCA (62.8%) and VPE-PPH (97.5%), regular in VPE-PA (74.4%). Significant differences were found between VC and speaking another language (x2 = 3.863, gl = 1, p = .05), VPE and with whom they live (x2 = 11.164, gl = 1, p = .05), VPE and children (x2 = 9,059, gl = 1, p = .003); and VPR and number of children (x2 = 11,164, gl = 1, p = .05).

El Rendimiento Académico (RA) evoluciona a partir de concepciones centradas en el alumno, hasta concepciones holísticas que atribuyen el rendimiento a un conjunto de factores derivados del sistema educativo, de la familia y del propio alumno. La condición de vulnerabilidad afecta el RA por diversos factores: contextuales, salud mental de padres, estimulación sensorial, lenguaje y características del ambiente físico. El objetivo fue identificar el RA en grupos vulnerables en estudio cuantitativo, no experimental y transversal en estudiantes universitarios con muestra no probabilística a conveniencia de 120 estudiantes. Se utilizó la Escala Medmar (α=.843 y dos mitades de Guttman .871) con dos dimensiones: Variables contextuales (VC) y Variables propias del estudiante (VPE). VC con dos subdimensiones Familiares (VCF) y Académicas (VCA) y VPE con dos subdimensiones Personalidad/Perfil humano (VPE-PPH) y Perfil Académico (VPE-PA). Resultados. Mayoría 59.5% mujeres, 90% de Michoacán, 13% pertenecen a la sección 10 y 50% al semestre sexto, 83.5% no cuentan con beca, 84.4% no tienen ningún hijo, 29.8% hablan otra lengua además del español, de los cuales el 16.5% habla purépecha, 98.3% no tiene ninguna discapacidad física, 56.2% cuenta con promedio de 8.1 a 9. Se encontró RA alto en escala total (68.6%) y VC (67.8%); y regular en VPE (62.8%). En subdimensiones, el RA fue alto en VCF (72.7%), VCA (62.8%) y VPE-PPH (97.5%), regular en VPE-PA (74.4%). Se encontraron diferencias significativas entre VC y hablar otra lengua (x2=3.863, gl=1, p=.05), VPE y con quién vive (x2=11.164, gl=1, p=.05), VPE e hijos (x2=9.059, gl=1, p=.003); y VPR y número de hijos (x2=11.164, gl=1, p=.05). Conclusiones. El RA en esta muestra fue alto, por lo que se espera que los egresados tengan un desempeño profesional adecuado.
