dc.description.abstractFamily planning and contraception constitute a fundamental basis of reproductive, physical, and mental health for students given their potential health and social benefits. Objective. To evaluate the barriers to the use of contraceptive methods among university students in Morelia. Material and methods. Quantitative study, non-experimental, descriptive and cross-sectional design. Probabilistic sample of 203 students selected with simple random sampling. The contraceptive method barrier instrument (=.85) was used. Descriptive and inferential statistics (Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis). Results. Most of the participants were women (76.4%), 92.6% were single, 59.1% lived with their families, 68% started an active sexual life, 58.1% used some contraceptive method and 8.9% had a previous pregnancy. The participants presented lower barriers to contraceptive use on the total scale (87.7%) and in the personal (91.6%), sociocultural (91.6%), family planning (87.7%) and health professional (89.2%) dimensions. Differences were found with the variables with whom do you live? and sexually active life in the total scale (p<.005). Conclusions. Students presented lower barriers to the use of contraceptive methods.en
dc.description.abstractLa planificación familiar y la anticoncepción constituyen una base fundamental de la salud reproductiva, física y mental para los estudiantes dados sus potenciales beneficios sociales y de salud. Objetivo. Evaluar las barreras para el uso de métodos anticonceptivos en estudiantes universitarios de Morelia. Material y métodos. Estudio cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, descriptivo y transversal. Muestra probabilística de 203 estudiantes seleccionados con muestreo aleatorio simple. Se utilizo el instrumento Barrera de métodos anticonceptivos (α=.85). Estadística descriptiva e inferencial (U de Mann-Whitney y Kruskal-Wallis). Resultados. Mayoría de los participantes son mujeres (76.4%), 92.6% solteros, 59.1% vive con la familia, 68% inicio vida sexual activa, 58.1% usa algún método anticonceptivo y 8.9% tuvo un embarazo previo. los participantes presentaron menores barreras al uso de métodos anticonceptivos en la escala total (87.7%) y en las dimensiones personal (91.6%), sociocultural (91.6%), planificación familiar (87.7%), profesional de salud (89.2%). Se encontraron diferencias con las variables. ¿Con quién vive? y vida sexual activa en la escala total (p<.005). Conclusiones. Los estudiantes presentaron menores barreras al uso de métodos anticonceptivos.es_MX
