| Abstract: | Every society is built on moral, legal, or social rules; if we break any of them, we could say that we are committing a sin, a crime, or, at best, a discourtesy. This research aims to identify and describe the forms used in Michoacán Spanish to express courtesy, specifically linguistic courtesy, since courtesy is identified as the regulator of social relations. To carry out this research, a qualitative analysis of the Michoacán Spanish Corpus (a linguistic corpus with 65 audio recordings and transcripts) was conducted, classifying the recordings into five levels of communicative immediacy and identifying which types of strategies were most frequent according to the levels of immediacy. As a result of this project, it was observed that Michoacán speakers have a high preference for normative courtesy strategies, both reinforced and adaptive; that there is a very measured care in terms of exhortative and strategic courtesy strategies; and finally, a considerable use of discourtesy strategies was observed, noting variants of these such as feigned discourtesy or anti-courtesy strategies.
