Análisis bibliométrico de los artículos más citados sobre irrigación en endodoncia

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this bibliometric study was to identify the top 50 most cited articles in irrigation in endodontics. Material and method: Web of Science was used for the search where the query “Root canal irrigants” OR “Root canal irrigant”, the search was limited to articles published until December 2024 and were submitted to Australian Endodontic Journal, International Endodontic Journal, Journal of Endodontics, Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology and Dental Traumatology. The results were listed in descendent order according to the citations received. Two researchers (OAGA y BMCR) analyzed each title and abstract to determinate the relation between the articles and the topic of interest. Results: A total of 167 authors contributed in the publications, highlighting Wesselink, P.R. and Zehnder, M. with 5 articles each. United States (n=15) and University of Zurich (n=5) were the country and institution with more production. The journal where most articles were published was the Journal of Endodontics (n=32). The articles were published between 1994 and 2015, the year with most articles was 2009 (n=6). The most cited article was “Root canal irrigants” (Zehnder, 2006) with 1060. “Irrigants” was the subtopic with more articles. Sodium hypoclorite highlights between the 288 keywords. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis of the top 50 most cited articles in endodontic irrigation revealed information about the scientific progress and research trends regarding this topic.

Objetivo: Identificar los 50 artículos más citados sobre irrigación en endodoncia. Material y Método: En febrero de 2025 se realizó una búsqueda en la base de datos “Web of Science”, donde fue empleado el operador booleano OR junto a las palabras clave “Root canal irrigants” y “Root canal irrigant”. Se incluyeron artículos publicados hasta diciembre de 2024, y que estuvieran publicados en las revistas “Australian Endodontic Journal”, “International Endodontic Journal”, “Journal of Endodontics”, “Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology” y “Dental Traumatology”. Los artículos obtenidos con la búsqueda fueron ordenados de manera descendente de acuerdo a la cantidad de citas recibidas. Una vez obtenido el listado fueron seleccionados los 150 artículos con más citas, dos investigadores (OAGA Y BMCR) analizaron el título y resumen de cada uno de ellos para determinar si presentaban relación con la irrigación en endodoncia. Los artículos que no mostraron relación con irrigación fueron descartados, de esta manera se obtuvo un listado de los 50 artículos más citados. Resultados: Un total de 167 autores participaron en las publicaciones, destacan Wesselink, P.R. y Zehnder, M. con cinco artículos cada uno. Estados Unidos de América (n=15) y la Universidad de Zurich (n=5) fueron el país y la institución con mayor producción. La revista donde fueron publicados el mayor número artículos fue el “Journal of Endodontics” (n=32). Los artículos fueron publicados entre 1994 y 2015, el año con la mayor cantidad de artículos en el listado fue 2009 (n=6). El artículo más citado fue el titulado “Root canal irrigants” (Zehnder, 2006) con 1060 citas. El subtema de “irrigantes” incluye la mayor cantidad de artículos. Hipoclorito de sodio destaca entre las 288 palabras claves encontradas. Conclusión: Este análisis bibliométrico del top 50 de artículos más citados en el área irrigación reveló información sobre el progreso científico, así como las tendencias de investigación en irrigación en Endodoncia.
