Santos Degollado: estudio político de un liberal mexicano

Abstract

Some years ago I did a research project where the focus was liberalism. At that time I studied the ways of politics of the people involved in the art of Lycurgus in the capital of Michoacán : Morelia , between 1851 and 1861 ; I was interested mainly in taking the attitude that those facing the conflict between two competing visions , who sought national holding dissimilar political development projects. In the research process came into view , and with increasing frequency since revising closely tracks the case, references regarding Santos Degollado . They defined him as a man tested and linked him with the group of Melchor Ocampo, undoubtedly the quintessential Mexican liberal . In the press, pamphlets and brochures of political content in the works of contemporary authors - Anselmo de la Portilla is one of them , it was appended to the character and values ??of liberal defender of republican institutions . As a politician , the character object of this work was delegated by Michoacán , a member of the Governing Council and governor , and was major player in the educational transformation of the entity first as secretary of the Board of Education and then as regent of the College of San Nicholas. As military, actively participated in the Revolution of Ayutla directing , though unintentionally , the army was organized in Michoacan to face the dictatorship of Santa Anna . Some research emerged several inconsistencies , which were accentuated by reviewing the primary sources of the time and about historiography . I knew then that Degollado worked about twenty-five years in the Church ; began as clerk and accountant became the tithe of the bishopric of Michoacán.

Hace algunos años hice un trabajo de investigación donde el tema central fue el liberalismo. En esa oportunidad estudié las maneras de hacer política de los personajes involucrados en el arte de Licurgo en la capital de Michoacán: Morelia, entre 1851 y 1861; me interesé sobre todo en la actitud que aquellos tomaron de cara al conflicto entre dos visiones antagónicas, que buscaron el desarrollo político nacional sosteniendo proyectos disímiles. En el proceso de investigación aparecieron a mi vista, y cada vez con mayor frecuencia toda vez que revisaba con atención las pistas del caso, referencias respecto a Santos Degollado. En ellas le definían como un hombre probó y se le vinculaba con el grupo de Melchor Ocampo, sin duda, el liberal mexicano por antonomasia. En la prensa, opúsculos y folletos de contenido político y en las obras de autores de la época –Anselmo de la Portilla es uno de ellos-, se adjuntaban al personaje valores de liberal y defensor de las instituciones republicanas. Como político, el personaje objeto de este trabajo fue diputado por Michoacán, miembro del Consejo de Gobierno y gobernador, y fue actor relevante en la transformación educativa de la entidad primero como secretario de la Junta de Instrucción Pública y luego como regente del Colegio de San Nicolás. Como militar, participó activamente en la Revolución de Ayutla dirigiendo –aunque sin proponérselo- el ejército que en Michoacán se organizó para enfrentar la dictadura de Santa Anna. Investigando un poco surgieron varias incongruencias, que se acentuaron al revisar las fuentes primarias de la época y la historiografía al respecto. Supe entonces que Degollado trabajó cerca de veinticinco años en la Iglesia; se inició como escribano y llegó a ser el contador de diezmos del obispado de Michoacán.
