Mestizaje: la trayectoria de un concepto. El caso de Jacques Lafaye

Abstract

El tema de esta investigación es la manera en que un historiador arma su obra: desde qué fuentes y enfoques constituye el andamiaje conceptual de su trabajo. La pregunta que anima este estudio es cómo y cuáles son los presupuestos que subyacen en un autor contemporáneo. La manera en que éste escribe y lee. Proponemos entonces una reflexión historiográfica en torno al caso del libro Quetzalcóatl y Guadalupe. La formación de la conciencia nacional en México, escrito por Jean Jacques Lafaye. Si bien se trata de un nombre conocido entre los historiadores, conviene señalar que este académico es miembro de de la tradición de la Escuela de Annales, reconocido por su labor dentro del campo de estudios americanistas y que en el pasado reciente ha trabajado en el Colegio de Jalisco. Sin embargo, su obra rebasa el carácter local al que parece conducir este perfil: en él hay que incluir inquietudes y experiencias en un plano más general, que van desde estudios de corte netamente hispanista hasta reflexiones sobre la imprenta, etc. Partimos del problema que plantea el hecho de que las formas prejuiciadas con que se asume el mestizaje, tal como la que planteó Nair Anaya al analizar la literatura producida en Inglaterra en torno a América Latina, pueden ser detectadas en otros autores que no son de esa nacionalidad .
