Migración y masculinidad. Un caso en la tierra caliente de Tumbiscatío, 1986-2008

Abstract

Migration, as a distinguished social aspect has been studied extensively, long before anthropology, psychology, economy, and sociology. Nevertheless, genre perspectives can oddly pinpoint the vast aspects of this phenomenon. Males in general seem to provide the most significant data when it comes to migration not relative to Tumbiscatio natives. The information we present is widely acnowledge by most citizens exposed to this tradition modifier. In most cases the information derives from lives of different individuals who feel have lost their place in our society. Therefore we strongly believe that today´s society has learned to change and modified the core values of the family this phenomenon touches. Among the different modification, one can say that women, in general, have played an importan role, perhaps unaware of its consequences. In cases where the significant other has been absent different ways of handling emotions and absent-roles have been implemented as one observes different cases in today´s society. It is believed that one can and will always try to have control over what happens with families whether planned or preconditioned behavior is noticed. Also, it is widely observed that no matter the distance/absence the significant other will try to compensate for distance/absence and will also seek to make up for its shorcomings. Authority figure and role playing will always have significant impacto on families where one parent has been absent regardless of reason. Sadly, in most cases authority figure is noticed to be eradicated from long absent-parent figure in Young families. The absent parent in most cases will sooner or later experience negative consequences derived from it’s absent. Migrating parents often have to adjust to survive and to live far from their loved ones. As a result it is believe that modern society it´s being modified at its core.

La migración como fenómeno ha sido ampliamente estudiado en México, desde la antropología, psicología, economía y sociología, sin embargo con perspectiva de género apenas se están realizando, para ser más puntuales podemos decir que son pocos los trabajos que han abordado la masculinidad en la migración. La investigación que presentamos tiene como fin dilucidar la problemática y el entramado que genera la salida de tumbiscatienses hacia los Estados Unidos. Empezando por modificar las relaciones sociales que estaban marcadas por la tradición donde cada integrante tenía asignado su lugar en la sociedad, salirse de ese rol provocaba una serie de comentarios y sanciones sociales, sin embargo con la migración como es obvio se gestaron cambios a los cuales la sociedad ha tenido que acostumbrarse o aprender a tolerarlos. Dentro de las modificaciones, podemos decir que la mujer cobró protagonismo al desempeñar además de su labor la que dejaba el esposo al ausentarse, mientras que el varón aun estando lejos busca mecanismos que le permitan controlar la familia, ya sea mediante la vigilancia de sus padres u otras personas de su confianza, trata de no olvidarse de sus responsabilidades como es el de proveer lo necesario para el hogar. Una vez que el hombre regresa se da cuenta que se ha generado un cambio en el seno de su familia, los hijos muchas veces ya no lo considerar como la figura de autoridad, en ocasiones rechazándolo y otras recriminando su ausencia, pero el mismo migrante cambia durante su ausencia, así que estas condiciones generan todo un caldo de cultivo que da como resultado la modificación de las relaciones sociales intrafamiliares.
