Abstract: Aquaculture contributes with more than half of the production of fish and shellfish for human consumption and is the fastest growing activity in the food sector. In 2010, this industry contributed 17% of the world supply of proteins of animal origin, with tilapia being the second most cultivated fish geographically. However, this activity is frequently affected by the presence of infectious diseases. These diseases occur due to the interaction of factors such as environmental conditions, management, the presence of pathogens, genetics and nutritional and immunological deficiencies of the cultured organisms. Studies in Mexico have reported species of bacteria such as Aeromonas spp., Francisella spp., Plesiomonas spp. and Streptococcus spp. indicating a relationship between intensified aquaculture activities in Mexico and the appearance of new diseases. Because the state of Guerrero lacks of studies on aquaculture activity, the main objective of the present study was to identify the bacterial pathogens in the tilapia cultured in the El Gallo dam in the state of Guerrero, where two samplings were carried out (October, 2017 and October 2019) to isolate and identify pathogenic bacteria present in tilapia tissue. In the samplings, six and five organisms showing signs of disease were collected respectively. Blood Agar and TSA were used where samples of different organs were plated. The fish showed erratic swimming, lethargy, exophthalmia, ulcers, desquamation, fin erosion, ascites and friable organs. In the first sampling, Streptococcus agalactiae, S. iniae and bacteria belonging to the genera Vibrio sp. and Aeromonas sp. From the second sampling, 13 Gram positive colonies were obtained, presumptive of Streptococcus sp. They were preserved in BHI with 20% glycerol and frozen at -80 ºC.
