Entre el discurso y el simbolismo. La construcción de la legitimidad nicolaita, durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX

Abstract

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze the discourses and the symbolic elements that promote a civic, social and symbolic presence of the Colegio de San Nicolas, as well as the different social representations which were the expressions of diverse groups about this institution and the nicolaitas to clinch the place of San Nicolas in the town of Morelia. The paper is thought from a cultural perspective and the discourse analysis. Even though we reflect about the official discourse; my interest is not to confirm or repeat what it holds but to show how it was built and how influenced and framed the legitimacy of group. Therefore, this study exposes the context of the city of Morelia during the second half of 19th century, emphasizing the situation of the Colegio de San Nicolas since its secularization in 1847. Then, based on official discourses, communications, circular letters, and some notes of press it is analyzed the social and civic presence of the Colegio de San Nicolas, the last one related to name of Melchor Ocampo and the moral and ideological values which he embodied. Finally, we consider the symbolic elements that framed an identity for the college, as well as the social representation about it. We consider three levels of representations: the official rebuilt since official discourses, that one of the press that was critical to the government, and the level of the social representations from the scholarship requests.

La presente investigación tiene por objetivo realizar un análisis discursivo y de los elementos simbólicos que contribuyeron a la construcción de una presencia cívica, social y simbólica del Colegio de San Nicolás, así como de las distintas representaciones sociales de diversos grupos y actores sociales en torno al plantel y a los nicolaitas y que buscaron afianzar el lugar de San Nicolás en la ciudad. Este trabajo se ha pensado desde una perspectiva cultural. Si bien, a lo largo de la reflexión se acude a diversos discursos de carácter oficial, mi interés no estriba tanto en repetir dicho discurso, sino en mostrar cómo se construyó y de qué manera incidió en la articulación de una legitimidad de grupo. Para ello, se estudia el espacio moreliano de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, poniendo especial atención en la situación de San Nicolás a partir de su secularización en 1847. Después, con base en distintos discursos oficiales, comunicaciones, circulares y notas de algunas publicaciones periódicas, se analiza la presencia social y cívica del Colegio de San Nicolás, esta última vinculada a la figura de Ocampo y a los valores morales e ideológicos que éste representó. Finalmente, se consideran los distintos elementos simbólicos que articularon una identidad para el plantel, así como las distintas representaciones sociales sobre este. Éstas se presentan a partir de tres niveles distintos, aunque vinculados entre sí: el oficial, reconstruido a partir de los discursos oficiales; el de la prensa crítica al gobierno, con base en algunas publicaciones periódicas, y el social, a partir de peticiones de beca para ingresar al plantel.
