Abstract: One of the major questions or issues surrounding the restoration is precisely what to keep. There are numerous criteria related to this question and, of course, throughout history the answer has varied according to different arguments that go with the times. This time, a property that is undoubtedly of great importance to the society that has, as it is one of the four existing chapels in the town of Charo, Michoacán, located southeast of the population faces neighborhoods. Due to the perishable nature of its original constituent materials suffered the collapse of much of its structure, but the interest of the community to keep up their assets, led to the reconstruction of space. For some specialists would mean the loss of the authenticity of the property, so you would question its value and consequent rescue and conservation, however, what really are the criteria that give value to a historic building warrant retention? The restoration has evolved not only in its techniques and principles to intervene a property, but has also changed in terms of the criteria for selecting the object of study, because today more emphasis is given to aspects related to the society aspects such as the aesthetic value of the building. One of the important aspects considered today is the ability to save the historic building that accusation as a document created in one place and specific time Chanfón wrote about this activity: "[...] the restoration should be professional intervention in the goods cultural heritage, which aims to protect their denunciation capacity necessary for the understanding of the culture. "
