Bilingüismo y funciones ejecutivas

Abstract

The objective of this investigation was to determine if there were differences in the performance of various tasks of executive function. For this purpose, an evaluation was carried out using four tasks designed by computer to evaluate the EF of inhibition, flexibility, switching and working memory which were: Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) task, Stroop task, Flanker task and N-Back task, to two groups of 50 teenagers each, from two middle school education institutions in Morelia, Mich. One group came from a bilingual education campus and the other from a non-bilingual education one. The results showed significant differences between the two groups, regarding the executive function of flexibility and switching but no significant difference in relation to the executive functions of inhibition and working memory.

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar si existían diferencias en el desempeño de diversas tareas de función ejecutiva. Para ello se realizó una evaluación utilizando cuatro tareas diseñadas por computadora para evaluar las FE de inhibición, flexibilidad, switching y memoria de trabajo las cuales fueron: tarea tipo Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), tarea tipo Stroop, tarea tipo Flanker y tarea tipo N-Back, a dos grupos de 50 adolescentes cada uno, de dos instituciones de educación secundaria en Morelia, Mich. Un grupo provenía de un plantel de educación bilingüe y el otro de educación no bilingüe. Los resultados evidenciaron diferencias significativas entre los dos grupos, respecto a la función ejecutiva de flexibilidad y switching pero ninguna diferencia significativa en relación a las funciones ejecutivas de inhibición y memoria de trabajo.
