Abstract: It has been reported that plants have developed adaptive strategies to mobilize iron, however, the possibility that some microorganisms associated with plant species of agricultural importance, such as lemon and corn, in particular bacteria with the ability to reduce it in a disabling manner also Participate in its solubilization has been little investigated. This work aimed to quantify the ability of rhizobacteria present in lemon and corn to reduce Fe3+, as well as characterize these populations. A total of 1,485 bacterial colonies were isolated, of which 1,132 showed Fe3+ reduction activity, which was obtained through two separate experiments using as medium incubation liquid soil extract in the first and second nutrient broth. The results obtained from the first experiment show that the lemon isolates had an average reduction activity specific 27% higher than those of the control while said value was 7% lower among those of the rhizosphere of corn with respect to the control. In the second experiment, the average specific reduction activity was 22% (lemon isolates) and 17% (corn isolates) higher than that found in isolates from the control. According to their specific reduction capacity, the isolates were classified as basal reducers, reducers and high reducers. In the first experiment the basal reducers were the most abundant, the high reducers were found in similar amounts in all treatments and were the least frequent, however, the lemon rhizosphere reducers were 2 times more frequent than those of corn and 1.3 times more frequent than control.
