Abstract: The perception of risk is a research topic in which a great deal of activity takes place. As for the field of medicine, it would be the risk of a certain disease. It has been shown that it is possible to modify the natural history of diabetes, when the disease is perceived. objective To identify the perception of risk that the medical assistants of the Family Medicine Unit No. 80, towards diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) have. Material and methods A total of 71 medical assistants were interviewed, of whom only 65 met the selection criteria. The identification of the risk perception was carried out using the Castillo-Arriaga questionnaire, which identified the nutritional status, hereditary family history and general knowledge about diabetes mellitus. Results The mean age was 42 ± 8.4 years. 16 participants (24.6%) presented inadequate risk perception, 24 (36.9%) were inadequate and 25 (38.5%) did not determine their perception. In the loglineal model, it was the father or family member who exercised a better presence in the perception than when the brother was. CONCLUSIONS The perception of risk in medical assistants was adequate only in 25% and in 38% of the participants it was not possible to determine their perception.
