Resumen : The use of temporary restoration materials in the root canal treatment is necessary when the treatment can´t be carried out in a single session. The sealing of the temporary filling material between appointment and appointment until the conclusion of the treatment, should prevent the passage and colonization of bacteria inside the dental organ, in order to contribute to the success of the endodontic treatment. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the sealing capacity of two temporary filling materials, Systemp onlay and Provisit, through the microbiological analysis of bacterial development. We used 50 samples in patients who attended the endodontic clinic of the postgraduate and the sample was obtain by swabbing the pulp chamber of molars that presented irreversible pulpitis and therefore required root canal treatment. Two swabs were performed, one at the start of treatment and a second swab at 8 days after the temporary filling material was placed. The samples were divided into two analysis groups, the Provisit group and the Systemp Onlay group, each with 25 samples. Of the 50 samples analyzed, 7 (14%) of the samples showed filtration and therefore bacterial development, while 43 (86%) of the samples did not show leakage.
