Resumen : A fuel cell generates energy as of a chemical reaction, commonly the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen yields products such as water and electrons that can be used. There exist different kinds of fuel cells and they are classified according to the type of the electrolyte such as SOFCs (Solid Oxide Fuel cells) and the IT-SOFCs (Intermediate Temperature -Solid Oxide Fuel Cells) that it characterize for having high operation temperature between 500 to 800 °C. One of the most interesting material for the electrolytes in IT-SOFC, is the doped ceria. At the present project, Gd-Doped ceria electrolytes were prepared by mechanical alloying (MA), starting from the oxides of CeO2 and Gd2O3, and Nd2O3/Pr2O3 as co-alloying elements, whit the objectivre of analyzing the effect of the co-alloying element in the ionic conductivity. First, the base alloy 15GDC (Gd2O3 15%-CeO2 85%mol) was analyzed at various milling times; 20, 30 and 40h. A structural analysis to the powders through Rietveld refinement was carried out by monitoring the change in the lattice parameter and determining the milling optimum time. In addition to the structural analysis, the as-milling powders were analyzed by Raman micro-spectroscopy and TEM. Once it was established the optimum time for the formation of alloys, the green preforms were compacted at 550 MPa, and then dilatometric analyses were performed in order to establish a suitable sintering cycle that guaranteed high densification of the electrolytes. The electrolytes were tested by impedance spectroscopy to measure their ionic conductivity. The ionic conductivity was measure in a temperature range of 400 to 800 °C in air and reducing atmosphere (5%H2/Ar) or lower oxygen partial pressure (from 0.2 atm to 10-12 atm).
