La representación de distintas identidades nacionales a través de personajes interpretados por un mismo actor, en tres filmes de Ismael Rodríguez: Los tres García (1946), Los tres huastecos (1948) y Tizoc, Amor indio (1956)

Abstract

Our research is aimed at studying the character in the cinematographic representations of three different national identities through the acting work of Pedro Infante in the films Los tres García and Vuelven los García (1946 film diptych), Los tres huastecos (1948) and Tizoc, Amor Indio (1956), made by the same Mexican director Ismael Rodríguez. The methodology is based on the proposals of Yuri Tinianov, Vladimir Propp and A.J. Greimas, whose perspectives not only highlight the importance of the actions of the characters in the narrative, consider their attributes and the set of elements built within the culture that produces them. Through its proposals we will seek to approach the representation of the Mexican national identity through the construction of the characters and the analysis of their actions, traits, and attributes, in the selected film works. Although the contributions for the study of the character by these theorists were initially focused on literary narratives, where they have been functionally operative for the analysis of the elements related to the signs that configure the characters and their semantic functions; we will apply it to the filmic narratives of Ismael Rodríguez already mentioned. With these four films by Ismael Rodríguez, although in the title we mention that there are three films because Los tres García and Vuelven los García make up a filmic diptych and we approach it as a single narrative; We note that this director was eagerly seeking to represent the national identity by resorting to conventions of representation that implied a restricted multiculturalism.

Nuestra investigación está orientada a estudiar al personaje en las representaciones cinematográficas de tres distintas identidades nacionales a través del trabajo actoral de Pedro Infante en los filmes Los tres García y Vuelven los García (1946 díptico fílmico), Los tres huastecos (1948) y Tizoc, Amor indio (1956), realizados por el mismo director mexicano Ismael Rodríguez. La metodología se basa en las propuestas de Yuri Tinianov, Vladimir Propp y A.J. Greimas, cuyas perspectivas no solo destacan la importancia de las acciones de los personajes en la narración, consideran sus atributos y el conjunto de elementos construidos dentro de la cultura que los produce. A través de sus propuestas buscaremos aproximarnos a la representación de la identidad nacional mexicana mediante la construcción de los personajes y el análisis de sus acciones, rasgos y atributos, en las obras fílmicas seleccionadas. Aunque las aportaciones para el estudio del personaje por parte estos teóricos estuvieron enfocadas inicialmente para las narraciones literarias, donde han sido funcionalmente operativas para el análisis de los elementos relacionados con los signos que configuran a los personajes y sus funciones semánticas; nosotros la aplicaremos a las narraciones fílmicas de Ismael Rodríguez ya mencionadas. Con estos cuatro filmes de Ismael Rodríguez, aunque en el título mencionamos que son tres películas porque Los tres García y Vuelven los García conforman un díptico fílmico y lo abordamos como una sola narración; advertimos que este director buscaba afanosamente representar la identidad nacional recurriendo a convenciones de representación que implicaban una multiculturalidad restringida.
