Transformación urbana de la ciudad de Comitán de Domínguez, Chiapas y la relación con las haciendas, 1891-1935

Abstract

In the present investigation, an approach is made on the relations between the city of Comitán de Domínguez and the agricultural and cattle ranches of this region in the period from 1891, year in which it is considered as the beginning of the porfirism in Chiapas, until 1935, time in which the Agrarian Reform is introduced in the state. This with the purpose of identifying the influence of this link in the urban-architectural transformation of the urban settlement. In which space is studied through three levels: the territorial (macro-scale), the urban (intermediate scale) and the architectural (micro-scale). To make this research possible, the analysis is based on five main concepts: urban space, urban transformation, urban morphology, spaces for production and cultural landscape. This by means of a methodology seen from a qualitative approach, covering a documentary and field study, allowing to understand and interpret the city-farm relationships in the Porfirian era and its effects on the Comiteco territory. This study describes the connection between the city and the spaces for production, which were a transcendental event for mutual development, contributing to the improvement and construction of infrastructure and equipment for both the city and the region. Likewise, the permanences of the Porfiriato are located in the present, in order to identify the building and urban remnants, as well as intangible survivals of this era with the intention of determining its relevance in contemporary society and its consideration as heritage.

En la presente investigación se hace un acercamiento sobre las relaciones entre la ciudad de Comitán de Domínguez y las haciendas agrícolas y ganaderas de esta región en el periodo comprendido de 1891, año en que se considera como el inicio del porfirismo en Chiapas, hasta 1935, tiempo en que se introduce la Reforma Agraria en el estado. Esto con el propósito de identificar la influencia de este vínculo en la transformación urbano-arquitectónica del asentamiento urbano. El en cual se estudia el espacio a través de tres niveles: el territorial (macro-escala), el urbano (escala intermedia) y el arquitectónico (micro-escala). Para hacer posible esta investigación se establece el análisis a partir de cinco conceptos principales: espacio urbano, transformación urbana, morfología urbana, espacios para la producción y paisaje cultural. Esto por medio de una metodología vista desde un enfoque cualitativo, abarcando un estudio documental y de campo, permitiendo comprender e interpretar las relaciones ciudad-hacienda en la época porfiriana y sus efectos en el territorio comiteco. Mediante este estudio se describe la conexión entre la ciudad y los espacios para la producción, las cuales fueron un suceso trascendental para el desarrollo mutuo, contribuyendo al mejoramiento y construcción de infraestructura y equipamiento tanto para la ciudad como a nivel regional. De igual manera, se ubican las permanencias del porfiriato en la actualidad, con el fin de identificar los remanentes edilicios, urbanos, así como pervivencias intangibles de esta época con la intención de determinar su relevancia en la sociedad contemporánea y su consideración como patrimonio.
