Análisis sistemático del complejo “Infamatus” del género Centruroides (Scorpiones: Buthidae) en México

Abstract

The study of the scorpions of the genus Centruroides of the "Infamatus" complex (Scorpiones:Buthidae) included a morphological analysis using 122 males, 151 females and 42 immature corresponding to 17 populations included in the present study, the updated diagnosis of Centruroides infamatus was made taking the original description of Koch (1845), the redescription as subspecies C. i. infamatus by Hoffman (1932) and later contributions in order to have a complete reference on the distinctive characters of the species, with the purpose of having clarity on the morphological delimitation of the species, the populations of the region of León Guanajuato and surroundings of the municipality were used as the representatives of Centruroides infamatus Koch sensu stricto. Direct comparison was made with samples of males and females from the other localities included in this work; the result is presented as a diagnosis of each of the populations that, due to the differences observed, were considered as probable new species. DNA was extracted from these populations and the 16S mRNA gene was amplified by PCR; 39 sequences were obtained for molecular analysis in this study. The populations analyzed can be morphologically differentiated into five groups, and this is consistent with the genetic divergence between the representative sequences of each group. In addition, three different methods are presented for phylogenetic reconstruction, which together provide sufficient evidence to suggest the existence of five new species for the subgroup "infamatus" in Mexico, which should be described.

El estudio de los escorpiones del género Centruroides del complejo “Infamatus” (Scorpiones:Buthidae) incluyó un análisis morfológico se utilizaron 122 machos, 151 hembras y 42 juveniles correspondientes a 17 poblaciones incluidas en el presente estudio, se hizo la diagnosis actualizada de Centruroides infamatus tomando la descripción original de Koch (1845), la redescripción como subespecie C. i. infamatus de Hoffman (1932) y las aportaciones posteriores a fin de tener una referencia completa sobre los caracteres distintivos de la especie, con la finalidad de tener claridad sobre la delimitación morfológica de la especie, se utilizaron las poblaciones de la región de León Guanajuato y alrededores del municipio como las representantes de Centruroides infamatus Koch sensu stricto. Se hizo la comparación directa con las muestras de los machos y hembras de las otras localidades comprendidas en este trabajo; el resultado se presenta como diagnosis de cada una de las poblaciones que por las diferencias observadas se consideraron como probables nuevas especies. De estas poblaciones se extrajo ADN y se utilizó el gen 16S RNAm que se amplificó mediante PCR; se obtuvieron 39 secuencias para el análisis molecular en el presente estudio Las poblaciones analizadas se pueden diferenciar morfológicamente en cinco grupos, y esta es consistente con la divergencia genética entre las secuencias representativas de cada grupo, además para la reconstrucción filogenética se presentan tres diferentes métodos, en conjunto se presenta evidencia suficiente que sugiere la existencia de cinco nuevas especies más para el subgrupo “infamatus” en México, las cuales deben ser descritas.
