Abstract

Concrete is basically a mixture of two components: inert aggregate and active aggregate. The active aggregates are composed of Portland Cement and water that when mixed form the paste or slurry. Inert aggregates are sand and gravel or crushed stone whose role is to form the skeleton of the concrete. When the active aggregates are mixed with the inert ones, they form a mass that hardens due to the chemical reaction of cement and water, which gives rise to an artificial rock better known as concrete.

El concreto es básicamente una mezcla de dos componentes: Agregado inertes y agregados activos. Los agregados activos están compuestos del Cemento Portland y agua que al ser mezclada forman la pasta o lechada. Los agregados inertes son la arena y grava o piedra triturada cuyo papel es formar el esqueleto del concreto. Al mezclar los agregados activos con los inertes forman una masa que se endurece debido a la reacción química del Cemento y el agua lo que da origen a una roca artificial mejor conocida como concreto.
