Resumen : The city of Morelia has serious flood problems that occur frequently in each rainy season. The extreme weather events cause the overflow of the Rio Grande, the main tributary of the city, causing damage to infrastructure and homes, affecting the city's economy. The present work focused on the urban sprawl of Morelia. The 2D modeling of several drains and rivers was carried out, taking into account the flood zones adjacent to the channels, with the purpose of evaluating in a general way the damages caused in order to establish mitigation measures or more specialized studies. The methodology used was based on two phases; the first was to carry out the hydrological study by obtaining the hydrographs for different return periods and the second was to perform the 2D modeling by using a numerical model called Iber. For the hydrological study, the microbasins under study were characterized by finding the parameters of: average slope of the main channels, number of runoff N and area. The maximum mean precipitation of each microbasin was found by the isohyets method and the representative function of the IDT curves was found, which allowed us to calculate the design hietogram. Finally, the hydrographs were obtained with the method of the United States Soil Conservation Service (SCS). For the 2D modeling in Iber, a global scheme was created in which rivers of interest could be simulated simultaneously, this scheme was fed with topographic information of the channels and LIDAR information. A field visit was made to identify the vegetation cover of the channels in order to assign the roughness coefficient of Manning based on the theoretical values of Ven Te Chow 2004.
