Divertimentos de la imprenta Vanegas Arroyo: la reflexión filosófica desde lo satírico-burlesco

Abstract

In Mexico at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Antonio Vanegas Arroyo's prints circulated, including satirical and burlesque amusements with animal characters. These prints had a great diffusion and reach, which distinguished them from many other publications of the time and made many particular distribution practices possible. Likewise, in the nonsense broadsheets, there are various resources (such as costumes, animal characters, and dialogues, among others) and strategies that condition their reading. Both the content of the texts and their circulation allows us to consider the possibility of a reflection of a philosophical nature from social criticism in entertainment. It is a different philosophical exercise, but one that takes advantage of the resources that compose it to deal with other issues and reach other areas of society.

En el México de finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX circularon los impresos de Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, entre ellos los divertimentos satíricos y burlescos con personajes animales. Dichos impresos tuvieron una gran difusión y alcance, lo que los distingue de muchas otras publicaciones de la época y posibilitó muchas prácticas de distribución particulares. Asimismo, en los divertimentos hay diversos recursos (como el disfraz, los personajes animales, los diálogos, entre otros) y estrategias que condicionan su lectura. Tanto el contenido de los textos como su circulación permiten plantearse la posibilidad de una reflexión de carácter filosófico desde la crítica social en los divertimentos. Se trata de un ejercicio filosófico distinto, pero que aprovecha los recursos que la componen para tratar otros temas y llegar a otros ámbitos de la sociedad.
