This research has as a principal objective to study the variables that affected the textile and apparel competitiveness in Mexico and China during the period 1996-2012. The purpose of this study is to ascertain that the labor productivity, the exchange rate and the trade liberalization affected the textile and apparel competitiveness at the indicated period of time. In addition, it was performed a causality test between the variables mentioned above by applying the Granger causality test (1969) and Toda and Yamamoto test (1995), in order to study if a causal relationship between them exist. As a result of causality tests it found that there is a causal relationship between labor productivity and competitiveness of the textile and garment mexican industry. In the case of China it was found that there is a causal relationship that goes from labor productivity to competitiveness of the textile and clothing industry.
La presente investigación tiene como objetivo primordial estudiar las variables que afectaron la competitividad de la industria textil y de la confección en México y China, para el periodo 1996-2012. Se pretende comprobar que la productividad laboral, el tipo de cambio y la apertura comercial influyeron en la competitividad de la industria textil y de la confección en el periodo señalado. Además de realizar un estudio de causalidad entre las variables antes mencionadas aplicando la prueba de causalidad de Granger (1969) y de Toda y Yamamoto (1995), con el fin de estudiar si existe una relación causal entre ellas. Como resultado de las pruebas de causalidad se encontró que existe una relación de causalidad de la productividad laboral hacia la competitividad de la industria textil y de la confección mexicana. Para el caso de China se encontró que existe una relación de causalidad de la productividad laboral hacia la competitividad de la industria textil y de la confección.
