In our days, people with disabilities form a part of a social phenomenon that interest us from different perspectives; the disabilities do not affect only the person who has it, but also their family and society they belong to. In Mexico since the decade of the 50’s was perceived a strong movement that included civil associations, parents and institutions that as a result achieved to promote the development of people with disabilities and also to gain equal opportunities through the establishment of centers that cared about development, integration and rehabilitation. In spite of people who have the Down´s Syndrome going to different institutions such as IMSS, ISSSTE, Seguro Popular and even to the CRIT, they don´t have and get the correct amount of attention and support that is required for their formation, education, stimulation and development; people is use to go to these places only when it comes a health problem or some issue related to their disability. In Morelia, Michoacán is located a civil association called Proyecto Integral Down de Michoacán,“PIDO”. This association is fully dedicated to the formation, education and support to people that have the Down´s Syndrome (DS). PIDO has been working for the well-being of the children since October 2007 and had attended over more than 600 boys and girls with DS. Since its foundation, PIDO has not been the owner of a real state, this case leaves them to adapt themselves to simple houses in which they haven´t found right spaces for the kids. Therefore, projecting a new space towards the allowance to Down´s Syndrome people to enjoy every service of rehabilitation, development and support; this way we can open up to integration and equal participation within the society and in every aspect in life. The just mentioned project can become a social, political and economic action that stands for the society beyond the protagonist of a simple object in some context. Hoy en día, las personas con discapacidad forman parte de un fenómeno social que interesa desde distintas perspectivas, ya que la discapacidad no sólo afecta a la persona, sino también a la familia, y a la comunidad a la que pertenecen. Desde los años cincuenta se percibió en México una fuerte movilización de asociaciones civiles, padres de familia e instituciones, que dieron las bases para lograr importantes logros como promover el desarrollo de las personas con alguna discapacidad y lograr la igualdad de oportunidades a través del establecimiento de centros de desarrollo, integración y rehabilitación. A pesar de que en México las personas con Síndrome de Down acuden a instituciones como IMSS, ISSSTE, Seguro Popular, incluso a los CRIT, no cuentan con la atención y apoyo suficiente para la formación, estimulación, educación y desarrollo, ya que solo asisten a éstas cuando se presenta un problema de salud o discapacidad física. En Morelia Michoacán se encuentra Proyecto Integral Down de Michoacán, “PIDO”, una asociación civil dedicada a la formación, educación y apoyo para personas con Síndrome de Down (SD) y que a ella han asistido, desde su fundación en octubre de 2007 más de 600 niños y jóvenes con SD. Desde la fundación de la asociación, no ha contado con un inmueble propio, por lo cual se ha adaptado a casas-habitación que lamentablemente no han contado con espacios adecuados. Es entonces que se decidió proyectar un nuevo espacio encaminado a permitir que personas con Síndrome de Down puedan disfrutar de todos los servicios de rehabilitación, desarrollo, y apoyo; de esta manera se abre paso a la integración y participación igualitaria en la sociedad, así como en todos los aspectos de la vida. El proyecto entonces se puede llegar a convertir en una acción social, política, y económica, que dé raíz a la sociedad, más allá de un simple objeto que tenga protagonismo en un contexto y además que pueda llegar a transformarse junto con la sociedad y la ciudad que va cambiando de una manera acelerada; es decir ver a futuro y no quedarse únicamente en el modelo del edificio.
