dc.description.abstract | There are many axiomatic systems for set theory, but choosing axioms is no easy matter. According to Wikipedia, an axiom is a proposition that does not require demonstration, since it is considered an "evident truth"; On which rests the rest of the knowledge or on which other knowledge is built. In this work I present applications of a not so axiomatic axiom, since at least to me it does not seem so "obvious" to me, and I think it has little intuitive. However, it perfectly fulfills the second part of the definition; The purpose of this paper is to talk about some knowledge that is built on the Martin Axiom. In the second chapter I present some definitions and theorems that will be used throughout this work. Most of them have to do with set theory, results that are usually part of a degree course. The third chapter states Martin's Axiom and some of its equivalences. Among them is a stronger version of Baire's category theorem, which as we see throughout the paper, is one of the many theorems that can be extended by adding Martin's Axiom to ZFC. In the fourth chapter there are already some of the consequences, such as the fact that c is a regular cardinal, and that for all κ <c, Martin's Axiom implies that 2 κ = 2 א 0. This and other results Show how Martin's Axiom "extends" many customary theorems of set theory, measure, and category.
| es_MX |
