In this thesis two stages for the automatically recognition of wild animals is presented, the segmentation and characterization. The tests are performed with pictures of ocelots from the state of Michoacán. These pictures are processed to get better solutions using the Canny edge detector for the recognition of the edges in the image, once the edges are defined, they are segmented to get the spots of the animal. Then the spots are characterized, first by the Hough Transform, finding the biggest quantity of lines and then the lines are connected. So the points of the characterized lines are obtained.
